Life Groups & Small Groups

Print

At NEPC a distinction is drawn between “Life Groups” and “Small Groups”.

    • A small group generally is formed for a given time period to study a particular curriculum together. The study may be a Bible study, or other study as financial management, rearing ‘adult’ children, or others. Upon completion of the study, the group may disperse and go on to another study. Some groups have chosen to stay together for another study. If you are interested in joining a small group contact Douglas Thigpen, Chairman of the Christian Nurture committee at 526-6868.
    • Another small group within NEPC is the “Tables-of-Eight” program. This successful program was designed for a small group (no more than 4 couples) to get together in an informal setting. Some “Tables” have decided to do a project such as start a golf tournament, or a program to promote volunteerism. Others meet monthly at a restaurant for a meal. About every 6-10 months the Tables are re-aligned and different groups are formed. This program is chaired by Jan Fair. She can be reached at 527-6981.

Life Groups:

  • Life Groups are defined as a group of 8-12 people with whom one covenants to share their life through fellowship and care, study and prayer. Generally a life group commits to being together for a fairly long duration, with the hope that afterwards, the group will remain together and not move on to a totally new group of people. The option to leave a life group for any reason is always available of course. Life Groups meet on all days of the week and at all times.

If you are interested in joining one of these groups, make a selection at the right for a description of the groups that are actively seeking members.

Small Groups:

  • Men’s Bible study breakfast: This group of men meets weekly at a local restaurant (currently Denny’s restaurant on the corner of 34th street north and 49th avenue. The 10-15 men (and sometimes the Pastor) meet to study (and sometimes vigorously debate) the word of God. At this hour abundant coffee helps to get the group focused on the stud which is usually led by our teacher extraordinaire Jim Connolly. Occasionally a study is led by John Matson. The group has been meeting for nearly 10 years. As situations change men have ‘cycled through’ the group. New members are always welcomed with the first breakfast always being paid for by the group. Contact Jim Connolly (642-8555) or John Matson (415-0599) for details, or show up at 7AM and plan to spend an hour studying the word of God.

Hooked on da Book: This group meets every Monday evening at 7PM and focuses on studying and meditating on the Word of God. This group is open to everyone. For more information you can contact Ted Grodecki (470-3315).

  • Table of Eight: The groups started to be formed in 2008. Since that time 3 cycles of Tables of Eight have been formed. The purpose of the Table of Eight program is to foster fellowship with different people within the church. We tend to be static in who we relate to so this helps to break down the barriers to conversation, and helps to foster volunteer when needed for the many programs the take place in the Church. This program is chaired by Jan Fair. She can be reached at 527-6981.
  • Women’s Bible Study: This group meets weekly in Diane Nance’s home (Pastor Tommy Nance’s wife). 12-15 women meet about 10AM for Bible study. The group also will take ‘field trips’ to augment a particular Bible book that is being studied. A recent trip to the Hold Land Experience in Orlando is an example of the trips taken. Contact Diane Nance at 528-0460 if you are interested in this group.
