What to Expect at Northeast

When you drive up to Northeast Presbyterian Church you will notice that the architecture is not quite a traditional ‘church’ design. Originally designed about 45 years ago, there was a vision of ‘hominess’ and quietness built into the building. The hominess and quietness atmosphere continues to this day.

The church is anything but quiet. There are projects galore for almost anyone that is interested in getting involved. And for those that like to a challenge to do new things, come on in and make yourself known. We are always looking for Sunday school mentors, youth mentors, people that like to nurture the Christian faith for others.

The ‘fireside room’ is the main entry point to the Church. This large gathering place is used for the usual Sunday gathering, for the fellowship time between services. You will be greeted by our ushers at the door each Sunday.

Depending on your choice of style of worship service will depend on which worship hall you will go into.

January 9th, 2011 the worship service schedule changed.

  1. 8:45AM: The contemporary service called "RISE" begins at 8:45AM and last for 45 minutes.  To get to the worship hall go through the front Sanctuary door to the upstairs worship area called the "Summit".  The Summit is a state-of-the-art theater that was designed for optimal sound transmission to every seat in the theater.  There are 122 fixed theater seats with no seat more than 35 feet from the stage.  Each individual seat is very comfortable and even has a small collapsible tray for your coffee and bagel.  A multi-piece band and vocalists will provide lively, but worshipful music.  Words to the music are projected on a large screen.  Pastor Tommy Nance will deliver the sermon.
  2. 9:45AM:  The 'HERITAGE' (traditional) service moved from the 10AM start time to 9:45AM.  To get to this service go straight through the front door to the fireside room and then into the Sanctuary.  At the Sanctuary door ushers will give you the weekly bulletin.  the bulletin contains a wealth of information about the church happenings in the near future.  It also contains the 'Order of Worship' enabling those first-time visitors to easily follow along with the service.  In the Sanctuary notice the extensive stained glass at the front and side windows.  The church was enlarged about 20 years ago and the glass was the gift of a church member.
  3. 11AM: The "REACH" (contemporary) service kicks off at 11AM.  This service is held in the Summit - the same location as the 9AM contemporary service.  This service is similar to the early service except that the full 7 piece praise band performs.

You are invited to try any or all of the services.  There is coffee and snacks available between services.  You are welcome to take coffee, bagels or your breakfast into the contemporary services.

During each of the services classes adult and children's classes will be held.  The children are encouraged to go to the service with their parents for the first 10-15 minutes.  They will be excused for their classes at that time.  Adult classes will start at 9, 10 or shortly after 11AM.  Youngsters 8-12 are invited to a JAM (Jesus And Me) class during the Traditional worship service. During the REACH (contemporary) service children 4-8 will attend a ‘Brightlife’ class. Both classes are staffed by experienced teachers.

The nursery is set up for those new-born babies to youngsters below 4 years old. The nursery is equipped with many toys and the usual child care items. A communication system enables the nursery to contact the parents if assistance is required during the worship service.

The youth program is geared for those that are ages 12-16 years. There are many opportunities for gathering, traveling, eating (a favorite at that age), sports, playing video games, etc. Look under the ‘getting involved’ tag for a description of these programs.

There are a number of fellowship opportunities throughout the month.  For instance every Wednesday evening at 5:45 a dinner is held. After the dinner a bible study is held with Pastor Tommy, Barry Torman and Ted Grodecki. A "senior sing" is held monthly.  A senior is defined as anyone wanting to participate in a sing-along period, then a lunch.

Other fellowship opportunities include 'tables-of-8'.  These groups usually meet bi-weekly.  Each group takes on its own personality by doing a project, bible study or fellowship events.  A church-wide picnic is part of the summer activities.  An outdoor concert featuring the Praise Band is held at Easter.

The Summit is utilized for a variety of events.  Several concerts (sold out) were held featuring contemporary artists as Warren Barfield, Mandisa, and Audrey Assid.  A program called 'collision of comedy' consisting of 3 christian comedians was held.  The Summit was designed for excellent accustics, and is outfitted with extensive audio and visual equipment.  No seat in the Summit is further than 35 feet from the stage.  The seats are elevated toward the back of the arena for optimal viewing during concerts or worship services.
